How Much Does House Cleaning Cost in Toronto in 2026?
If you have never hired a cleaning service before, figuring out the price can feel confusing. Everyone quotes differently. Some give you a flat number. Others charge by the hour. Some tack on fees you did not expect. I have been setting rates for over 30 years, so let me break it down plainly.
What house cleaning costs in Toronto right now
Prices depend on who you hire. Here is what you can expect in 2026:
Independent cleaners: $25 to $45 per hour. This is the widest range because it includes everyone from someone just starting out to a seasoned professional who has been doing this for decades. Quality varies a lot.
Small companies (like us): $35 to $55 per hour. You are paying for insurance, reliability, and consistency. A good small company sends the same person every time and the owner is involved.
Franchises: $55 to $75 per hour. The brand name costs money. You are also paying for their marketing, their office, and their call centre. The person who shows up is often different each visit.
App-based services: $45 to $65 per hour. Convenient to book, but you rarely get the same cleaner twice. The app takes a cut, which means the cleaner is either rushed or underpaid. Sometimes both.
What affects the price
Not every home costs the same to clean. A few things move the number:
Size of your home: A one-bedroom condo takes less time than a four-bedroom house. Most companies quote based on how many hours the job will take.
Condition: A home that gets cleaned every two weeks is faster to clean than one that has not been touched in three months. If the first visit is a catch-up, expect it to take longer.
Frequency: Weekly visits are cheaper per visit than monthly ones. The home stays cleaner between visits, so each session takes less time.
Supplies: Some companies include supplies in the price. Others, including us, ask you to provide your own. This keeps the hourly rate lower and means the products in your home are the ones you chose.
Why hourly is more honest than flat rate
A flat rate sounds nice because you know what you are paying up front. But here is the problem. If a cleaner quotes you $200 for a visit and it takes longer than expected, they have two choices: rush through the rest or eat the loss. Most rush.
Hourly pricing means the cleaner does thorough work without watching the clock. If your home needs extra attention one week, it gets it. If it is a quick visit, you pay less. You only pay for the time spent.
We charge $45 per hour with a 3-hour minimum. That is it. No surcharge for a different crew member, no extra fee for the kitchen, no surprise add-ons.
What to watch out for
Hidden fees: Some companies quote a low base price and then add charges for "extras" like inside the oven, the fridge, or baseboards. Those are not extras. That is cleaning.
Different crew surcharges: If your regular cleaner is away and they send someone else, some companies charge more. That should never happen.
Cancellation penalties: Life happens. A reasonable company will work with you on rescheduling. A company that charges you a full visit for cancelling with 24 hours notice is not on your side.
No insurance: If the price seems too low, ask about insurance. If they do not have it, that low price could cost you a lot more if something goes wrong.
How to get good value
The cheapest option is rarely the best value. Value means a cleaner who shows up on time, does consistent work, and does not cut corners. Someone who knows your home and does not need to be managed.
If you want to bring the cost down without sacrificing quality, there are practical ways to save on house cleaning that actually work.
